Weldon Art Group

The Art Group was formed in 2003 as a result of a Village initiative whereby people
were asked what activities in the village could get support. Mike Dowling laid out an
Art Programme and by chance the Weldon Women's Institute enrolled as a group and we started our life with 8 members.

From those early days and with some members invariably passing away, leaving the area, etc, we are now up to 34 members with a waiting list. People in the club enjoy the jovial and relaxed atmosphere with a membership that has semi professional artists through gifted amateurs down to beginners. One thing we are proud of in that all members have improved enormously since joining.

We frequently walk round and join in discussions with other painters and learn from
each other. We frequently have professional demonstrations and workshops by skilled artists nationally known and renowned to provide help in the various areas in which
we are engaged.

Our members include skilled people in oils, acrylics, pastels, drawing and a very wide number of excellent water colourists who make up the mass of our membership.

We meet every Thursday afternoon at 1.30 until 4 in the Village Hall and anyone interested is welcome to come in and look around and see what we are doing.

There are up 12 workshops every year where professional artists give full tuition
and advice on your own work, these sessions are usually all day (10am to 4pm).
Also demonstrations by outside professionals take place where you can study their
work techniques.

Every year the group have a 2 day exhibition, whereby their own paintings are on show
to the public. The exhibition displays approximately 100 paintings, some of which are
for sale. Proceeds are given to charities nominated by the members. They also have excursions to art exhibitions where many nationally known artists have stands and there are stalls selling art equipment.

New members, whatever their standard, are very welcome to join.
No annual fee just a weekly charge of £2.
